It’s all systems go for the fourth edition of the FIBA 3×3 World Tour in Abu Dhabi.
After six successful Masters legs held in Manila, Prague, Baijing, Lausanne, Mexico DF, and Rio de Janeiro, 3×3 basketball’s flagship event visits the capital of the United Arab Emirates for the first time for the final tipoff on October 15-16.
Organized by FIBA in cooperation with the Abu Dhabi Sports Council and supported by the UAE Basketball Association, EXTRA International Sport and Sport Arena, spectators can watch the games for free while. Games will also be streamed live on youtube.com/FIBA3x3.
Twelve teams from 8 different countries will be vying for the title, including 17 of the top 20 players in the FIBA 3×3 Individual World Ranking and two teams who previously won the FIBA 3×3 World Tour: Ljubljana (2013) and Novi Sad Al Wahda (2014).
The knock-out phase will start on the 15th, while the quarterfinals will take place on the 16th at 6:45PM local time.
Novi Sad Al Wahda, seeded No. 1, as expected, is the team to beat after topping the Manila and Rio de Janeiro Masters. They will be facing a tough challenge in Ljubljana who toppled them in the World Tour title game last 2013. Doha, who beat them in the semifinals of the Beijing leg, is not too far behind, while Vilnius (LTU) will also be a big threat being the only unbeaten team in the World Tour this season.
On top of a USD $30,000 cash prize, the winners will earn a ticket to the FIBA 3×3 season-ending event — the FIBA 3×3 All Stars – to be held in Doha, Qatar on December 11.
Besides the centerpiece event, the FIBA 3×3 World Tour will also feature a shoot-out contest and a dunk contest which will feature the three-time dunk champ Rafal ‘Lipek’ Lipinski from Poland and social media sensation Jordan ‘Mission Impossible’ Kilganon from Canada.
