UFC: Holly Holm still humble after upset win over Ronda Rousey

holly.holm_The world was against Holly Holm as she went against the queen of mixed martial arts but yet, she was able to pull the biggest upset in the history of mixed martial arts.

People were taking on a bet on how much time will Holm last in the octagon against Rousey but only a few bet on her to win. Her team knew all along that Holm will give Rousey the fight of her life.

“Holly walked into my gym 17 years ago. Now, you’re going to come here and give the biggest upset in history in people’s minds … not in our minds. We knew she could do it,” said Holm’s striking coach Mike Winkeljohn.

Before coming to the MMA world, Holm was more known as a boxer and has held numerous welterweight titles and was considered among the best of all time. She was even Ring Magazine’s back-to-back female fighter of the year from 2005-2006.

“I feel there’s a lot of emotion in Ronda that I hadn’t seen before … but I [felt] like I had an edge and wanted to stay focused,” Holm said.

Holm didn’t take full credit to her historical win but instead, she quickly gave the credit to her team immediately after her victory in an interview with Joe Roegan.

You know what, I’m getting in here and I had so much love and support. I said to myself, ‘How can I not do this with all that love’,” a teary-eyed Holm expressed.

maxresdefault“I had the best coaching from stand-up, to grappling, to wrestling… this team right here is priceless. My husband, my father, my coaches and my brothers are here,” added Holm.

Even with her interview on Fox, Holm was again teary-eyed when fellow UFC champion, Daniel Cormier complimented her that the win could not have happened to sweeter and more deserving person that her. Cormier asked how does it feel to have no one believes except for the four people that walked in with her on the octagon and say to her coaches that ‘we did it’.

“I can’t explain. There was so much hard work and belief. And their belief in me that made me want to do it for them,” Holm said in tears.

“You know”I can’t even explain how blessed I am and how fortunate that I have such a great team that believes in me. Just walking out there… it’s us anyway. We’re the ones doing it. I’m the one that has to fight, and they’re the ones that are giving me the advice, and that’s what it comes down to,” added Holm.

With Holm having arguably the biggest upset in sports for this year, let us wait for her next fight. From a rematch with Rousey or Tate, Holm indeed created a great following after showing humility in victory.
