Liverpool Transfer News: Update on Alex Teixeira bid

English Premier League (EPL) club Liverpool were on the verge of making a deal with Shakhtar Donetsk to sign their attacking midfielder Alex Teixeira this January. However, the deal seems to have fallen off pace as the Merseyside club have failed to agree Shakhtar’s valuation of the player.

Ukrainian giant Shakhtar wanted £35 million (US $50 million) for Teixeira. They consider the Brazilian as their last remaining valuable asset, according to Sky Sports.

If Teixeira is unable to exit Shakhtar this January, then he will surely be off in the summer. However, no deal is in place for Liverpool or any other club at this moment.

Shakhtar manager Mircea Lucescu said that he would not stand in Teixeira’s way if there was a better offer for the Brazilian to move elsewhere. However, there was a new angle to his statement this week.

“I compare him with other players of the same age who changed a club. [Angel] Di Maria for example at Paris Saint-Germain. Teixeira can be at the same level, better even. He doesn’t get injured, and every year he gets better and better.” Lucescu said to FourFourTwo.

Shakhtar had earlier sold their star Douglas Costa to Bayern Munich for £24 million (US $34.2) which they consider to be very cheap. Hence, the Ukrainian club board has decided to be extremely stubborn with Teixeira’s negotiation.

Meanwhile, the Brazilian attacking midfielder has shown his frustration regarding no deal being finalized between both the clubs.

“There has only been one offer £24.5 million (US $34.93 million), and Shakhtar rejected it. I know my agent is still attempting everything possible to help me get to Liverpool.” Teixeira said to Anfield HQ.

Shakhtar will want to keep hold of the 26-year-old at least for this season as they look to win back the Ukrainian title from Dynamo Kiev. Both the clubs are on level points and Teixeira could prove to be the title decider between the two clubs.
