Mexico City – The NBA was playing their regular tour of the NBA Global Games when in the 6:30 mark of the 3rd Quarter while the Boston Celtics were up by 20-points over the Sacramento Kings, Rajon Rondo argued a call and called NBA referee, Bill Kennedy, a few gay slurs.

In response to the incident, the NBA issued the following statement which Yahoo Sports’ Mark Spears tweeted — Rondo will be suspended for 1 game for the remarks he made.

Furthermore, the Kings General Manager, Vlade Divac released a statement through the Sacramento Kings Official Website, apologizing in behalf of Rajon Rondo

“Rajon’s comment was disrespectful and offensive, and we wholeheartedly disapprove of any language that discriminates or disparages others based on sexual orientation or anything else,” said Vice President of Basketball Operations and General Manager Vlade Divac

“Rajon has apologized and this is not the sort of behavior we condone nor is it representative of the Sacramento Kings organization,” Divac added.

The King’s owner also made a statement in the Sacramento Kings’ official site and also apologized not just to the public but also to NBA referee, Bill Kennedy.

“Rajon’s comment is not reflective of the culture of the Sacramento Kings organization or the world we want to live in,” said Kings Owner and Chairman Vivek Ranadive.

“He’s apologized, and has been suspended by the NBA. On behalf of the team, I apologize to Bill Kennedy for any harm this may have caused,” added Ranadive.

In the aftermath, as Yahoo! Sports tried to get a statement from NBA referee Kennedy – and in a shock of everyone – he admitted he was gay and proud.

“I am proud to be an NBA referee and I am proud to be a gay man,” said Kennedy.

“I am following in the footsteps of others who have self-identified in the hopes that will send a message to young men and women in sports that you must allow no one to make you feel ashamed of who you are.”
