UFC: Ronda Rousey, Joanna Jedrzejczyk faces 6 months medical suspension

Former champion Ronda Rousey and strawweight champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk have been handed down the mandatory six-month medical suspension after sustaining injuries in their bouts at UFC 193 last weekend.

Both Rousey and Jedrzejczyk suffered severe injuries during their last respective bouts.

Rousey, who tasted her first professional MMA defeat after being knocked out cold by Holly Holm in the second round at the event in Melbourne, has a severe head injury.

Jedrzejczyk, meanwhile, broke her right hand in her title defence against Canada’s Valérie Létourneau.

Usually medical suspensions are handled by state athletic commissions regulating the fights and are not made public; but since the event was staged in Melbourne, the UFC regulated itself in the absence of a commission and released full details of the pair’s lay-offs to MixedMartialArts.com.

As per the suspension, Rousey is suspended for 180 days unless she is cleared by a CT scan hinting no damage. She is also prohibited from fighting again for 60 days and not to have any contact training for 45 days.

Jedrzejczyk, too, is medically suspended for 180 days unless cleared by an orthopedic doctor after having an X-ray examination that reveals no damage.

She is also not to fight again within 45 days, and have no contact or real training for 30 days.

UFC president Dana White is however hopeful that Rousey will recover from her injuries swiftly and return to the ring better like never before.

He told listeners of the Joe Rogan podcast: “She’s the mentally strongest f****** athlete I’ve ever met in my life.”

“When she gets over this loss, she’s going to be a savage,” added the Las Vegas based businessman.

“She was a maniac and a hard worker when she was the best in the world. What’s she going to be like now that she’s lost?”

Ronda Rousey has received her first career upsetting loss to Holly Holm who sent her down the mat in a powerful knockout. Since her loss, Rousey has received severe backlash from people. Being the crowd favorite and the NO 1 contender it was expected from people to express their disappointment. However, the likes of Lady Gaga, 50 Cent, Laila Ali and Donald Trump have slammed Rousey over social media for other reasons following her loss.

Lady Gaga has termed Rousey’s  loss as “Karma” for not touching gloves with Holm before the fight.

50 Cent has posted a picture of a bloodied Rousey after her knockout with a caption suggesting that Mayweather has asked him to do his “dirty work” recalling the feud between Mayweather and Rousey.

Mohammad Ali’s younger daughter Laila Ali on the other hand expressed no shock over Rousey’s loss calling her infact not the best fighter in the world and suggesting that Rousey has a lot to learn.

Donald Trump meanwhile has expressed his happiness at Rousey’s loss calling her not a good person.
