From grey clouds hovering for most part of the past week, a ray of sunshine now hangs over Lamar Odom.
Barely a week since he was found unconscious in a Nevada brothel, the former NBA star is reportedly showing, albeit minimal, more signs of recovery while still confined at Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center at Las Vegas.
According to reports, the former NBA Sixth Man of the Year has shown steady improvement the past few days and has already started with his physical therapy.
Although the 35-year-old Odom remains in intensive care, he is said to be breathing on his own now and is able to have simple conversations, sources said. He regained consciousness on Friday, October 16, and offered his first words since being found unresponsive unconscious at the Love Ranch brothel outside Las Vegas last Tuesday, October 13.
Kobe Bryant and Lakers General Manager Mitch Kupchak were among Odom’s first visitors at the hospital last Tuesday night. The Lakers were in Las Vegas for a preseason game against the Sacramento Kings.
Odom’s former LA Clippers teammates Blake Griffin, DeAndre Jordan, and Chris Paul were also paid him a visit at the Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center after they arrived late Wednesday night from a trip to mainland China where the Clippers played two exhibition games against Charlotte.
There are still many questions surrounding his health condition, full recovery, and ability to function — reports said that not all his organs are healing as fast as his heart, and doctors have yet to assess the level of brain damage from the stroke (or strokes) he suffered. but people close to him are remaining positive that he will through out of this crisis.
Odom’s estranged wife, reality TV star Khloe Kardashian, remains by his bedside and is the one making the medical decisions for him.
Authorities have already sent blood samples to be tested hoping to find out what kinds of drugs caused Odom’s condition.
