Villanova beats North Carolina, crowned 2016 NCAA Men’s Basketball Champions

Villanova wins NCAA National Championship title with an incredible shot coming from Kris Jenkins via a buzzer beater.  Villanova defeated North Carolina, 77-74, in the championship game held at NRG Stadium, Houston, Texas on Monday.

At the end of the first half, North Carolina was in control over Villanova with a five-point lead, 39-34. Both teams shot the ball well but North Carolina had more boards and was 7-of-9 from the three-point line.

In the second half, the game turned in favor of Villanova making a 10-3 run to tie it at 44-44 with 13:46 left in the game. Marcus Paige tied the game at 74-74 after he unleashed an off-balance three-pointer 4.7 seconds left in the game. Right after that, Kris Jenkins answered Paige with his own three-pointer assisted by Ryan Arcidiacono to win the game.

In a report via ESPN, Marcus Paige said that he is sure that they will beat Villanova Wildcats in overtime.

“We were 4.7 seconds away from winning the game because I told the team, … all we had to do was get to overtime and the game would be ours,” Paige said. “And I truly believe that I think our whole team believes that.”

The epic game drew a different reaction from social media specifically on Twitter. Some showed disappointment over bad officiating in the second half of the game. However, in the remaining seconds of the game, Twitter has been flooded by different exaggerating reactions expressing on how amazed they were with the historical game.

It started when UNC guards Marcus Paige released a three-pointer to tie the game at 74-74. It is followed by a winning buzzer-beater coming from Kris Jerkins making the people in the social media crazy labelling the game as one of the best in basketball history.

NBA superstars Dwayne Wade, Ricky Rubio and Jeremy Lin are known to have personalities who expressed their reactions towards the breathtaking last seconds of the game.

It is the second championship title of Villanova since getting their first in 1985 with also an incredible finish.
