Stan Wawrinka vs Jared Donaldson in Cincinnati Masters Live: Swiss no. 2 seeded stands out as Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer absent due to injuries

Following his move to pull out from Rio Olympics 2016, Stan Wawrinka finally went back on court after suffering from his back injury. Recently, he was seen preparing for the nearing Cincinnati Masters in Ohio.

The 31-year-old Swiss tennis player resumed his training after eight days off due to his acquired injury. While skipping the recent Rio Games due to rehab, he gained some time to practice for the Cincinnati Masters which is scheduled right after the Olympics.

“It was not easy to not be there, but it would’ve been way too much to fly to Rio,” Wawrinka said.

Yahoo Sports added that the Swiss double Grand Slam champion didn’t want to gamble his health while he remained unfit at that time. Hence, he needed to miss the Games although he desired to play against the best tennis players around the world.

He even admitted that the decision of pulling out was tough for him. Yet, he has to compromise for the sake of his health through some days off and rehab sessions with his doctor and physio. Generally, Wawrinka spent his time to recover from injury.

Despite the disappointing circumstances, he appeared to have much improvement as he started to do some practice sessions early this week. Stan Wawrinka seemed ready to face the British no. 1 seeded Andy Murray this time, who owned two Cincinnati titles.

Certainly, the Swiss tennis player could stand out all throughout the matches given that Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic already confirmed their absence in the tournament. Both of these tennis champions suffered from injuries as well.
