Steven Jackson headed to Atlanta
After voiding his contract Thursday, Steven Jackson has signed a three-year contract with the Atlanta Falcons.
Jackson is another high profile player that has signed with a different team for the 2013-2014 season after becoming a free agent. Other notable free agents that have signed with a different team are Wes Welker and Mike Wallace.
Jackson spent nine seasons with the St. Louis Rams and rushed for 10,135 yards and 56 rushing touchdowns, according to ESPN.com. He was also a three-time Pro Bowler and rushed for at least 1000 yards in eight seasons.
With Falcon’s former running back Michael Turner cut from the team, Jackson will now be their starting running back with backup Jacquizz Rodgers, according to NFL.com.
Jackson believes that he is still a top starting running back in the league, as he noted when he spoke to Sirius XM NFL Radio last week.
“For where I’m at, going into year 10, I’m not ready to step back and just become a primary backup or a reduced-role guy to be part of a running back by committee,” Jackson said.
