Tar Heels star P.J. Hairston busted for marijuana possession
University of North Carolina basketball star P.J. Hairston was arrested Wednesday night for possession of marijuana.
According to ESPN, Hairston was pulled over at a checkpoint in Durham, and was arrested along with two other men for misdemeanor charges of marijuana possession. Hairston also was driving without a license.
“Coach Williams and (director of athletics) Bubba Cunningham are aware of a situation that took place last evening with P.J. Hairston,” UNC senior associate athletic director for communications Steve Kirschner said in a statement, reports USA today. “We’re currently looking into it to gather the facts. We will issue a statement when we have enough information to do so.”
After having a great season for the Tar Heels last year, Hairston decided to remain in Chapel Hill for next season, and not enter the NBA draft. He was the leading scorer for the Tar Heels averaging 14.6 ppg, while bringing in 4.3 rpg, and shooting 39.6 percent from the three point land.
After being ousted in the second round of this year’s NCAA tournament, the Tar Heels look to bounce back next season with Hairston playing a key role. However, this could set them back if he does have to serve a suspension.
