Doom release date, update unveiled

Bethesda Softworks has released a new trailer for the upcoming game, “Doom”, featuring a powerful character named Baron of Hell and Prowler, along with the power-ups, power weapons and game environments.

Doom will have nine multiplayer maps when it launches this coming May. Each map will have its own unique quality, and will take gamers to places such as the pits of Hell and more. Some of these maps showcase one- or two-way teleporters that can be used by both humans and demons, GameSpot reported.

“These multi-tiered combat arenas are littered with hazards, and packed with items that can turn the tide of combat at a moment’s notice. And while they all have secrets for you to uncover, none of them are built to allow for easy sniping or hiding points,” Bethesda said, via GamenGuide.

Doom will have six multiplayer modes, the Soul Harvest, Freeze Tag, Warpath, Team Deathmatch, Domination, and the Clan Arena.

The Freeze Tag game mode will put gamers frozen in a place instead of dying, and can only be thawed by allies standing nearby. The Warpath game mode involves a single capture point moving around the map with a set pathway to capture it.

The Soul Harvest is a kill-and-collect game mode, which is similar to Kill Confirmed in Call of Duty, where gamers have to collect the souls of killed enemies to earn points.

In addition, there’s also a closed multiplayer beta for the game which will run from March 31 to April 3. Gamers who pre-ordered a copy of “Wolfenstein: The New Order” and redeemed their beta code will also have access to the closed beta period. Doom will be made available on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on May 13.
