Defending Olympic champions Andy Murray and Serena Williams advanced to the second round of the men’s and women’s singles event of Tennis in the 2016 Rio Olympics.
The world’s ranked number two and the 2012 London Olympics gold medallist Andy Murray defeated Victor Troicki in straight sets to advance to the next round of the competition.
The British professional tennis player Murray outlasts the Serbian National Troicki in a 1 hour and 23 matches with the score of 6-3, 6-2.
Throughout the match, Murray’s experience makes him unstoppable and the Serbian tennis player Troicki had a hard time catching up with his opponent. Murray is fighting out for his straight second Olympic gold medal.
In the women’s division, the world’s ranked number one and the reigning Olympic gold medallist Serena Williams defeated Daria Gavrilova in straight set to earned her first win in this 2016 Rio Olympics.
The American professional tennis player Williams dominated the Australian Gavrilova in a 1 hour and 31 minutes match with the score of 6-4, 6-2.
Williams showcased her superb service having seven service aces throughout the match. Like Andy Murray, Serena Williams is also fighting for her second straight Olympic gold medal.
On the other 2016 Rio Olympics Tennis News, Spain’s Rafael Nadal also won his first round game after defeating Argentina’s Federico Delbonis in a straight set with the score of 6-2, 6-1.
Meanwhile, the world’s ranked number one Novak Djokovic is out of the 2016 Rio Olympics after losing to the 2012 London Olympics bronze medallist Juan Martin Del Potro in straight sets with the score of 7-6(4) 7-6(2).
Andy Murray will face Juan Monaco of Argentina in the second round of the tournament while Serena Williams will face Alize Cornet of France.
