The A’s reacquire Kurt Suzuki
The Oakland A’s acquired catcher Kurt Suzuki from the Washington Nationals on Thursday night.
According to MLB.com, Suzuki is going back to Oakland where he started his career and spent his first five and a half seasons. Suzuki was traded to the Nationals last season and was splitting time with Wilson Ramos.
Suzuki will join Stephen Vogt as the A’s catchers, as John Jaso and Derek Norris are both on the disabled list for the A’s. The A’s sent minor league pitcher Dakota Bacus to the Nationals. Bacus was a ninth round pick for the A’s in the 2012 first player draft.
According to SF Gate, the A’s will pay the rest of Suzuki’s salary for the season which is about $675,000. Suzuki is happy to be back in Oakland, where his career started.
“I was kind of shocked, but very pumped,” Suzuki said. “I wouldn’t have ever thought of this happening, but everyone knows how much I love and respect Bob Melvin and the coaching staff there. It’s going to be fun.”
Suzuki batted .223 with three home runs and 25 RBIs for the Nationals this season.
