Top pocket passer Keller Chryst verbally commits to Stanford

Keller Chryst, nephew of Pittsburgh head coach Paul Chryst, has verbally committed to David Shaw and the Stanford Cardinals.

According to ESPN, Chryst made his announcement one day before suiting up to compete in the Elite 11 Quarterback camp. The 6-foot-4 quarterback held offers from various teams such as defending national champion Alabama, USC and even Pittsburgh where his uncle is coaching; however the prospect chose to stay close to home and commit to Stanford.

“I just felt like it was the best decision for me overall,” Chryst told ESPN. “Every school had their own strong points, and I just felt like I fit in best at Stanford.” With the Cardinals’ reputation of great quarterback play throughout history, Chryst’s choice should serve him well in his development.

Chryst became a top recruit after his junior season at Palo Alto High School in California. According to The Sports Xchange, the quarterback compiled over 2,400 passing yards and 28 touchdowns, increasing his stock in the recruiting game.

This marks the seventh Stanford recruit of the 2014 class and the fourth among ESPN’s top 300 prospects.
