UConn No. 1 in Women’s Poll For 49th Straight Week

On Monday, Connecticut women’s basketball team received all 40 first-place votes in The Associated Press Top 25 poll.  This is the 49th consecutive week they top the poll and 150th time in school history.

The huskies are on to a historic season winning 87 straight games for a new NCAA woman’s basketball record.

Maya Moore scored a season-high of 31 points and the Huskies beat Marquette 79-47 on Thursday, matching up NCAA women’s record.

UConn will face off against No. 11 Ohio State Sunday, Dec. 19 at Madison Square Garden.  If the Huskies pull a victory, they will tie with UCLA men’s basketball team record of 88 straight wins.

“Obviously we have an opportunity to do something that’s pretty significant in terms of the basketball world,” UConn coach Geno Auriemma said. “The basketball world views that number as a really significant number.”

In the top five with UConn are Baylor, Stanford, Duke and Xavier.
