UFC News: Demian Maia wants a shot at the title over GSP fight

UFC fighter Demian Maia has been regarded as one of the best when it comes to Brazilian Jiu Jistsu and in the world of mixed-martial arts (MMA). Maia’s latest accomplishment is a first-round submission win over Carlos Condit. Condit, who is considered among the top welterweights in the UFC, succumbed to Maia’s world-class grappling skills at the UFC on Fox 21.

In just one round, Maia dismantled Condit and just proved to be the bigger and better fighter between the two.

With his win against Condit, Maia has cemented his name among the best and now wants a shot at the title. He is now eyeing a possible fight against the champ, Tyron Woodley for the UFC welterweight championship.

Maia is also considered to fight Georges St-Pierre in his return to the octagon but according to Maia, the fight is far from reality.

“I’m honored that he mentioned my name because he’s a legend,” Maia stated in an interview with MMA Fighting.

“He’s maybe the only fighter to leave as champion. He’s one of the best, for sure, alongside Anderson (Silva). I consider Anderson the best of all time, but he’s definitely the No. 2. But my goal is to fight for the title. I want to fight for the title. After that, it would be a pleasure to fight him or anyone else. If everything goes according to my plans, I’ll come out as champion and then I can fight him next.”

According to Fight Sports, unlike many fighters in the UFC who have publicly stated interest in money fights rather than title fights, Maia says that his ultimate goal is still the championship belt.
