UFC Rumors: BJ Penn calls out Georges St-Pierre in a lightweight match?

Penn was supposed to fight Cole Miller for UFC 199 when he was pulled out after he has flagged off using a medically administered IV during a non-fight period. Based on the regulations agreed both by the UFC and USADA, the use of IV had been recently banned. Penn for his part issued a statement that was posted on his website and claimed that he had no idea that the IV rehydration was banned year-round.

“I voluntarily disclosed to USADA that during a non-fight period that I had an IV administered under the care of a doctor. The rule for IV usage had changed since my last fight in the UFC and was unaware of the change and voluntarily disclosed the information to USADA,” Penn noted in his statement.

According to USADA, Penn is fully cooperating on the matter and noted that the UFC’s anti-doping policy forbids the use of an IV in excess of 50 ml over a six-hour period. They also posted a statement that says that exemptions are given “for those legitimately received in the course of hospital admissions, surgical procedures or clinical investigations. Intravenous infusions received in any other setting require an approved therapeutic use exemption (TUE).”

MMAJunkie reported that Penn’s suspension will end on Sept. 25 which means that he is eligible to fight at UFC 205 which will take place at the Madison Square Garden in New York City. As early as now, Penn is calling out one name and that is of former welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre. Penn and St-Pierre had a serious rivalry and Penn wants to score a win against his rival.

The two met before and all were in favor of St-Pierre – one by split decision and the other by fourth round knockout (corner stoppage). Penn is aiming also for a comeback and he wants to return with a bang and that could only happen if he takes on St-Pierre one more time. Penn wants to meet St-Pierre at the 155 lbs. catch weight that is if the welterweight champ agrees to the fight. He promises to come out clean this time and show the MMA world that he has no intention of doing and going against the rules set by the UFC.

“At no time in my career in martial arts have I ever doped and anticipate all test results from USADA will come back clean and will be working with the UFC to get the matter cleared up and return to fight as soon as possible.”
