UFC Rumors: Miesha Tate wants third fight saga with Ronda Rousey for ‘closure’

Miesha Tate wants a third fight against Ronda Rousey and would even put her UFC women’s bantamweight title on the line just to have a closure between them once and for all. Tate is getting into the Octagon to face Amanda Nunes at UFC 200 where she hopes of achieving a convincing victory.

Rousey recently said that fighting Tate would be her last, after which she will retire. That sounded disrespectful for Tate, who immediately told Megan Olivi for the UFC Fight Pass original series, “The Exchange,” that a third fight with Rousey just needs to happen not only to redeem herself but she also believes that she can beat her.

“People want to know how she is going to come back from such a devastating loss…if she is going to come back? Our name will forever be intertwined. Ronda Rousey vs. Miesha Tate, it will forever go down to as the best rivalries in women mixed martial arts…I have a tremendous amount of respect for her as an athlete, I think she is one of the greatest of all time. I feel a third fight with her at some point needs to happen for myself because I know I can beat her and that is one in my bucket list,” Tate said.

UFC president Dana White stated earlier this month that Rousey has undergone a knee surgery which will push her comeback inside the Octagon either by this December or early next year. White added that once Rousey recovers from surgery and starts training, they could make plans for her comeback fight. He added that he wants Rousey to face Tate for the title or whoever will be holding the women’s bantamweight belt.

“Injuries happen in this sport and a fight is made. Somebody falls out and somebody else slides in,” White explained. “I’m not even saying Holly Holm couldn’t be the champion by the time Ronda comes back. So, whoever holds that belt when Ronda’s ready.”

But for Tate, a fight with Rousey is something personal and she wants Rousey to eat her disrespecting words. Tate added that Rousey’s stunning loss to Holly Holm has changed her, which could be a disadvantage for her when they both meet for the third time inside the Octagon.

“Some people have been saying that she’s said, ‘I’ll come back for one fight against Miesha Tate because I know that I can beat her, and then I’m retiring. That she doesn’t want to fight Holly (Holm). I don’t know if that’s true or not, but I have heard that. If it is true, I find it disrespectful. Do I think she’ll come back the same? Something tells me no. I think that’s just my take on the interviews I’ve seen her do. I feel like she’s somewhere else other than fighting. I don’t feel like this is her No. 1 drive anymore,” Tate explained.

Thus, fight fans should stand by and wait for the formal announcement of the third fight for both Tate and Rousey which could be the deciding point of their rivalry. However, based on the records, Rousey has a two-fight edge over her and that is going to be something to ponder on.
