UPDATE: Manti Te’o girlfriend creator speaks with Dr. Phil
Deadspin wrote the original article and Manti Te’o spoke with Katie Couric but now we will hear from the man who created Lennay Kekua, Ronaiah Tuiasosopo.
Tuiasosopo has interviewed with Dr. Phil McGraw about the hoax. McGraw spoke on the Today show on Wednesday. McGraw said that Tuiasosopo says that the Notre Dame player, Te’o, was not involved with the hoax. McGraw also says that Tuiasosopo said that he fell ”deeply, romantically” in love with Te’o.
Tuiasosopo has said the same thing as Te’o, in that while the relationship had gone on for years, there were time periods where they did not speak at all. They only communicated online and on the telephone. Tuiasosopo says that it was his voice.
The Associated Press reports that Tuiasosopo said, ”There were many times where Manti and Lennay had broken up. But something would bring them back together whether it was something going on in his life, or in Lennay’s life, in this case in my life.”
Tuiasosopo intended to break things off between Lennay and Manti before he had to fake her death.
”I wanted to end it because everything I had gone through, I finally realized that I just had to move on with my life and I had to get me, Ronaiah, I had to start just living and let this go,” Tuiasosopo said.
According to Reuters, McGraw said on the Today; show, ”I asked him straight up, ‘Was this a romantic relationship with you?,’ and he says yes. I said, ‘Are you then therefore gay?’ And he said, ‘When you put it that way, yes.’ And then he caught himself and said, ‘I am confused.’”
Te’o told Katie Couric when he was on her show that he is not gay and is “far from it.”
After interviewing Tuiasosopo, McGraw said that he absolutely does not believe that Te’o was part of the hoax. The interview with Tuiasosopo will be on Dr. Phil in a two part segment on Thursday and Friday.
