USA Basketball announces roster for summer minicamp

USA Basketball has announced its roster for summer minicamp. The minicamp is part of Team USA’s preparations for the 2014 FIBA World Cup in Spain.

The players that were selected will train July 22-25 in Las Vegas. The minicamp will conclude with an intrasquad game at the Thomas and Mack Center on July 25. Mike Krzyzewski and his assistants Jim Boeheim, Monty Williams, and Tom Thibodeau will be the coaches, according to the Associated Press. Krzyzewski has committed to coach Team USA through the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics.

Kyrie Irving of the Cleveland Cavaliers and Damian Lillard of the Portland Trail Blazers headline the list of players that were selected. The other players that were selected include Mike Conley of Memphis Grizzlies, Anthony Davis and Ryan Anderson of New Orleans Pelicans, Ty Lawson and Kenneth Faried of the Denver Nuggets, Harrison Barnes and Klay Thompson of the Golden State Warriors, John Wall and Bradley Beal of the Washington Wizards, DeMarcus Cousins of the Sacramento Kings, DeMar DeRozan of the Toronto Raptors, Greg Monroe and Andre Drummond of the Detroit Pistons, Derrick Favors and Gordon Hayward of the Utah Jazz, Taj Gibson of the Chicago Bulls, DeAndre Jordan of the Los Angeles Clippers, Chandler Parsons of the Houston Rockets, Larry Sander of the Milwaukee Bucks, Dion Waiters and Tyler Zeller of the Cleveland Cavaliers, and Kemba Walker of the Charlotte Bobcats.

Davis of the New Orleans Pelicans is the only returnee from the 2012 London Olympics gold medal team, USA Today Sports reports. Indiana Pacers’ Paul George, San Antonio Spurs’ Kawhi Leonard, and Jrue Holiday of the Philadelphia 76ers have also been invited. Twenty players have some kind of USA basketball experience.
