Virginia Tech and Penn State will face off in 2022

The Virginia Tech Hookies and the Penn State Nittany Lions will meet up for the first time in history, but football fans will have to wait a few years to see it happen.

According to ESPN, the two schools announced an agreement that will match-up Penn State and Virginia Tech for a home and home series starting in 2022.

The agreement will send the Nittany Lions to Blacksburg, Virginia on September 17, 2022 and the following year the Hookies will travel to Happy Valley Pennsylvania on September 16.

Its hard to believe two storied programs such as these have never met on the football field but now that it is on the schedule this game should draw a lot of attention from across the nation.

The Virginia Tech Director of Athletics Jim Weaver confirmed the deal on Hookiesports.com saying, “I am very pleased that we have been able to negotiate a home and home football series with Penn State.”

Dave Joyner, the Penn State Director of Athletics echoed this excitement claiming fans have been waiting to see this match-up for a while.

“Virginia Tech is an opponent our alumni and fans have been asking about adding to the schedule,” Joyner said in a statement posted on Gopsusports.com. I am very appreciative of the effort of Jim Weaver to make this long-awaited match-up come to fruition.”

Even though this series is still over 7 years away, mark your calendars now and catch a piece of college football history.
