Who is Bryan LaHair?

When the new MLB season begins each year, the Chicago Cubs and their fans usually brace themselves for another long season. Early on, the team has been energized by Bryan LaHair, but who is Bryan LaHair? In a league filled with All-Star players at first base, LaHair has seemingly gone unnoticed.

LaHair is currently fourth in the MLB in overall hitting and second in the National League to Matt Kemp. According to MLB.com, LaHair is currently batting .384 with eight home runs and 18 RBI. With Prince Fielder and Albert Pujols switching to the American League, it shifted the balance of power away from the National League.

If the All-Star game was today, LaHair in all likelihood would probably be the starter for the National League at first base. According to Yahoo Sports, LaHair is owned in 81 percent of all fantasy leagues. His 1.241 OPS ranks only behind Matt Kemp and Josh Hamilton, who are the front runners early on for the MVP awards.

In the rubber game between the Atlanta Braves and the Chicago Cubs, LaHair knocked in the only run of the game on an RBI single that scored David DeJesus in the seventh inning. It will be interesting to see if LaHair can continue his hot hitting at the plate. With the emergence of LaHair, Cubs fans are wondering if Anthony Rizzo will be the next prospect to get a call to the majors.
