India will take on Australia in a virtual quarterfinal at the International Cricket Council (ICC) World T20 group stage match set to be held at the PCA Stadium, Mohali.
It’s an all win match for either of the team as the one which loses out will have to pack their bags out of the tournament. This will be a shame considering that both the teams have the quality and verve to be potential champions.
Neither of India or Australia has been able to showcase their true colors in the tournament with both losing to New Zealand, the best team in the championship so far.
Both teams however have managed to win rest of their matches turning this face off into a potential knockout, as noted by ibtimes.co.in.
By the end of Sunday one of either Virat Kohli, MS Dhoni, Rohit Sharma or David Warner, Shane Watson, Glenn Maxwell will bow out of the 2016 edition of world T20. This will be a heartbreaker for cricket lovers as an India vs. Australia encounter is always mouthwatering in a World Cup final, rather than a group stage.
However, such is the nature of T20 that potential heavyweights have to get knocked out early, considering that only two teams from each group are eligible to make way into the semifinals.
Australia will be more confident than India coming into the tie with a massive win over Pakistan in their last match. Having scored a mammoth total of 193 on the board, the Australian bowlers had an easy time dealing with the Pakistani batsmen.
India on the other hand has had to experience slower wickets, but did manage to hold their nerves well against Bangladesh to come off with a sensational victory. If their match against Bangladesh would have gone otherwise, then their encounter with the Aussies would have been down to the run rate, which is never a good thing.
In the end, the team which is able to hold their nerve well in such an encounter generally prevails. India have shown their ability to keep their head cool in the game against Bangladesh and Australia are known to be the masters of holding their nerve. This makes the game extremely interesting and difficult to predict.
