Dean Ambrose got the upper hand on A.J. Styles in this week’s episode of SmackDown. Even though his match with Baron Corbin ended in a no-contest, Ambrose got the last laugh by standing tall to end the August 30 episode.

Meanwhile, Styles defeated Apollo Crews in a singles match but his private area took a beating in the main event. According to PWMania, The Phenomenal One will eventually win the WWE World Championship and he would resume his feud with John Cena.

Becky Lynch vs. Nikki Bella vs. Naomi vs. Alexa Bliss vs. Natalya vs. Carmella in a Six-Pack Challenge for the SmackDown Women’s Championship

Alexa Bliss and Natalya gained some momentum this week by defeating Becky Lynch and Naomi in a tag team match. The babyfaces were distracted when Carmella attacked Nikki Bella, who was on commentary for the match.

Nikki is expected to become the first ever SmackDown Women’s champion to bring credibility to the title, per Cageside Seats. However, she is not expected to have a long title reign because WWE is being cautious with her health.

SmackDown Tag Team Championship Tournament Final

The Hype Bros and Heath Slater & Rhyno joined The Usos and American Alpha in the semifinals of the SmackDown Tag Team championship tournament. The Hype Bros defeated The Vaudevillains while Slater & Rhyno spoiled the return of The Headbangers in this week’s episode of SmackDown.

The Usos will be facing American Alpha while The Hype Bros are up against Slater & Rhyno in next week’s SmackDown. The winners of the respective matches will be going to WWE Backlash 2016 and face each other to become the first ever SmackDown Tag Team champions.

Randy Orton vs. Bray Wyatt

In this week’s episode of SmackDown, Bray Wyatt challenged Randy Orton to a match at WWE Backlash 2016. The match became official when The Viper accepted the challenge. It is a fresh matchup between two of the brand’s top stars that need wins.

The Miz (C) vs. Dolph Ziggler for the WWE Intercontinental Championship

The Miz took another shot at general manager Daniel Bryan in this week’s SmackDown in Dallas but Dolph Ziggler interrupted him. The Showoff was looking for a fight but The Miz and his lovely wife, Maryse, walked out.

In the Talking Smack segment after the show, Daniel Bryan announced that The Miz will be defending the Intercontinental championship at WWE Backlash 2016. The SmackDown GM announced that The Miz’s opponent is Dolph Ziggler.

WWE Backlash 2016 is expected to be a three-hour show and more matches will be announced next week. Here are some of the possible matches to be added in the event.

Baron Corbin vs. Kalisto

Even though Baron Corbin was in the main event of SmackDown this week, the WWE should not ignore his feud with Kalisto. The two superstars were supposed to face each other at SummerSlam but it was dropped due to time constraints.

The losing tag teams in the title tournament will likely be put in an eight-man tag team match while Apollo Crews and Kane should also be on the card. WWE Backlash 2016 will be held on September 11, 2016 at The Coliseum in Richmond, Virginia.
