WWE Backlash 2016 rumors and updated match card heading into Sunday’s big event

SmackDown Live will be holding their first brand-exclusive pay-per-view, WWE Backlash 2016, since the brand extension on September 11 in Richmond, Virginia. The event is just several days away and here are the latest rumors and updated match card for WWE Backlash 2016.

The booking of this week’s SmackDown clearly shows that Dean Ambrose will likely retain the WWE World Championship against A.J. Styles. The Phenomenal One got the upper hand on The Lunatic champion heading into WWE Backlash 2016.

Nikki Bella vs. Becky Lynch vs. Naomi vs. Carmella vs. Alexa Bliss vs. Natalya in a Six-Pack Challenge for the SmackDown Women’s Championship

Carmella has the momentum heading into WWE Backlash 2016 after making Nikki Bella submit in their six-woman tag team match. Well, it means that Nikki is going to become the first ever SmackDown women’s champion.

According to Cageside Seats, the WWE wants to build the credibility that is why they want to put it to the longest-reigning Divas champion in history. It also helps Nikki, who is coming off neck surgery, maintain her health.

Heath Slater & Rhyno vs. The Usos/The Hype Bros for the SmackDown Tag Team Championships

American Alpha was supposed to face the team of Heath Slater & Rhyno but The Usos attacked them after their match. Now, it looks like Slater and Rhyno are the favorites to win the match.

What a great story for Slater if he becomes part of history by winning the first ever SmackDown tag team titles with the Man-Beast. Let’s just hope the WWE does not turn him into Damien Sandow 2.0.

The Usos vs. The Hype Bros

On the other hand, The Usos just turned heel by attacking Chad Gable’s leg and they are expected to be in the finals against Heath Slater and Rhyno. The twins now have the momentum with their first-ever heel run and it is very possible that they walk out of WWE Backlash 2016 champions.

Randy Orton vs. Bray Wyatt

After weeks of exchanging promos, Randy Orton and Bray Wyatt finally meet at WWE Backlash 2016. Several reports surfaced this weekend that Luke Harper might be ready to return from an injury. He has not been assigned on any roster but it will probably be on SmackDown as Bray forms the original Wyatt Family.

The Miz vs. Dolph Ziggler for the WWE Intercontinental Championship

The momentum of The Miz following the best promo of his career has died down in the past couple of weeks. However, the main point of that segment is to get him over the crowd and make him a credible champion against Dolph Ziggler, who recently challenged for the WWE World Championship.
