WWE Rumors: Reason Roman Reigns dropped WWE title revealed

Roman Reigns surprisingly lost the WWE World Heavyweight championship to Seth Rollins cleanly at last night’s Money in the Bank pay-per-view. According to the latest WWE rumors, the reason Reigns dropped the WWE title is because he’s not drawing enough people.

It should be noted that Dean Ambrose cashed in his Money in the Bank briefcase on Rollins after his win to become the new WWE champion. Money in the Bank 2016 was very historic since all the former members of The Shield held the WWE title on the same night.

According to the Wrestling Observer (h/t Wrestling Inc.), one possible reason Reigns lost the WWE championship is he does not draw fans at live shows enough. The declining ratings for Monday Night Raw can also be another reason.

The WWE live event attendance for May 2016 dropped by 30 percent compared to last year when Seth Rollins was the champion. However, it should be noted that this could be attributed to John Cena’s absence due to his hiatus and injury.

The report also mentioned that there two sets of house shows with one headlined by Reigns and the other by Ambrose. The numbers for both shows were said to be identical with Ambrose’s live events being held in smaller markets.

“Last month the ‘B’ shows with Dean Ambrose, that were often in smaller markets, were drawing just as well as the ‘A’ shows with Roman Reigns. Roman Reigns is drawing really bad. Before he wasn’t, but now he is, so now it’s an issue,” Dave Melter said via Cageside Seats.

“Does that mean that it led to this, or is this just another way to get Roman Reigns more over, because that’s been the goal for the last however long? Time will tell,” he added.

It’s true that Reigns has not gotten over the crowd while Ambrose constantly gets great reactions. Even Rollins was cheered when he returned as a heel. As mentioned by Meltzer, only time can tell what the WWE is really planning for Roman Reigns.

I *pray* that the Reigns experiment is finally over but I still doubt that WWE really learned their lesson in regards to him. We’ll see.
