Ricochet, known as Prince Puma in Lucha Underground (LU), is reportedly finished with the promotion following the expiration of his contract. According to the latest WWE rumors, Ricochet is signing with the WWE as long as he is legally eligible to and he might be joined by other LU stars.
The WWE has been trying to sign the 27-year-old high-flyer, who made his name wrestling in Dragon Gate, Pro Wrestling Guerrilla, Chikara and New Japan Pro Wrestling. He has the potential to be a great asset for the WWE but his contract with LU prevents him from signing with other televised wrestling promotions in the United States.
According to Cageside Seats, Ricochet will not be signing a new lucrative contract with Lucha Underground because he wants to be in the WWE. He cannot sign a deal with the WWE at the moment since he has to wait six months due to a clause in his LU deal.
His LU contract also prevents him from wrestling with other televised promotions until the end of Lucha Underground Season 3, which will air next year. However, there seems to be an easy way out for Ricochet and he could sign with the WWE as early as 2017.
According to Wrestle Zone, Ricochet can say to LU that he won’t be wrestling under the Prince Puma character in the WWE. He will likely be given a new ring name and gimmick that is not the same as a Prince Puma.
Wrestling without a mask and in a new character will not be marketing issue that will prevent him from signing with WWE. It should be noted that he is still going to appear in Ring of Honor and NJPW before heading to the biggest wrestling company in the world.
On the other hand, it seems like the WWE is also interested in other LU stars. Some of the top stars in the promotion include Johnny Mundo, Sexy Star, Matanza, Rey Mysterio, PJ Black, Fenix, and Pentagon Dark.
