WWE SummerSlam 2016 rumors and updated match card after brand split’s first week

WWE SummerSlam 2016 is less than a month away and there are already three huge matches that have been added to the official match card. Here are the latest rumors and updated match card for WWE’s second biggest event of 2016.

  • Brock Lesnar vs. Randy Orton

According to TMZ Sports, the WWE will not suspend Brock Lesnar despite the failed drug tests from his fight at UFC 200. The match against Randy Orton is still on and The Beast will be returning to Monday Night Raw next week.

Orton fired the first insult of the feud at WWE Battleground when he said that he does not need any enhancements to beat Lesnar. The line was planned all along by the WWE but fans blasted The Viper because he has already failed two WWE Wellness Policy tests during his career.

Nevertheless, Lesnar vs. Orton is an intriguing matchup considering that the WWE has been punishing Roman Reigns for failing a drug test. It should be noted that there is no official word if this match will be the main event of WWE SummerSlam 2016.

  • Seth Rollins vs. Finn Balor for the WWE Universal Championship

Raw Commissioner Stephanie McMahon and general manager Mick Foley announced that the WWE Universal Championship will be the brand’s new world title. Seth Rollins was handpicked as one of the possible champions and he will face Finn Balor for the championship.

Balor shocked the WWE universe by pinning Roman Reigns on Raw this past week to earn the opportunity to become the first-ever WWE Universal Champion. Rollins vs. Balor is a very fresh matchup and this match could very well be one of the best of the year.

  • Dean Ambrose vs. Dolph Ziggler for the WWE World Championship

The fans wanted unpredictability and they got it this week when Dolph Ziggler became the No. 1 contender for Dean Ambrose’s WWE World Championship. Ziggler defeated five other superstars in a Six-Pack challenge on SmackDown Live.

On the other hand, here are several of the rumored matches that could be added to the WWE SummerSlam 2016 match card.

  • John Cena vs. A.J. Styles

After pinning A.J. Styles in the Six-Man Tag Team Match at WWE Battleground, John Cena got his revenge. A second one-on-one match between Cena and Styles it has been rumored that it will happen at WWE SummerSlam 2016.

  • Sasha Banks vs. Charlotte for the WWE Women’s Championship

The WWE did not have to wait for WWE SummerSlam 2016 to crown Sasha Banks as the new Women’s Champion. However, it is expected that Charlotte would want a rematch and she will likely get it at the biggest event of the summer.

  • The New Day vs. Karl Anderson vs. Luke Gallows for the WWE Tag Team Championships

The New Day is now the longest-reigning WWE Tag Team champions in history and they celebrated it this past week on Raw. However, Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows attacked the champions to send a message.

WWE SummerSlam 2016 will be on August 21, 2016 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. It will be the second straight year that the WWE has held the event in the same location.
