Yankees GM Brian Cashman would like to see Chipper Jones in pinstripes
On baseball’s Opening Day, 19-year veteran Chipper Jones trots out to play third base in the classic Yankee pinstripe uniforms… Or at least that is what New York Yankees general manager Brian Cashman is day dreaming out. Chasman told the press on Monday he wants to lure Jones out of retirement to play for the storied franchise.
“Get it out there,” Cashman told reporters because he doe not have a working phone number for Jones’ agent, according to the Los Angeles Times. “I would sign him in a heartbeat. He can play third base, first base, DH. He would be perfect.”
The Yankees are in need of help because their starting third baseman Alex Rodriguez is out after hip surgery until the All-Star break and first baseman Mark Teixeira will be out for two months with a strained tendon in his wrist.
Cashman’s message was received by Jones and he took to twitter for his response.
Enough with the rumors! While I am flattered about the speculation of being enticed out of retirement, I’m happy with life as a bad golfer!

The New York Times has connected the Yankees to 37-year-old first baseman Derek Lee as another replacement option.
