Yasiel Puig not in lineup for Dodgers Saturday with hip soreness
Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Yasiel Puig is not in the lineup on Saturday against the Colorado Rockies with a sore hip.
According to MLB.com, Puig has dealt with the injury for over a week. Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said that he is unsure if Puig will be off the bench for the Dodgers on Saturday.
Puig injured his hip on July 3, when he ran into the outfield wall and slammed his left leg into the fence. Puig played every game up until Saturday but was pulled from Friday’s game against the Rockies in the forth inning after showing he had a limp.
Dodgers’ manager Don Mattingly spoke to the Los Angeles Times about how Puig needs to communicate with the team about his injuries.
“It just takes an understanding,” Mattingly said. “You can’t say ‘I’m OK’ and then go two innings and come out. That’s what puts us in a bind. … He’s better off pinch-hitting late and using him for an inning.”
Puig was called up in June and is hitting .392 with eight home runs and 19 runs batted in. Puig has been a spark plug for the Dodgers and have helped lead them from last place in the National League West into second place in the division since being called up.
