YES Network to televise ACC football and basketball
The New York Yankees’ YES Network has agreed to televise Atlantic Coast Conference football and basketball.
According to NCAA.com the Yes Network agreed to a deal with Fox Sports Media Group on July 11 to broadcast 10 ACC football games along with 23 men’s basketball games. The deal also included rights to ACC women’s basketball and all Olympic sports.
After the ACC came to an agreement with the Pinstripe Bowl in week’s prior, the new television deal comes as no major surprise across the NCAA. This will mark the second major move for the conference, that is attempting to break into the New York media market.
Executive vice president of Fox Sports regional networks echoed this believe in a statement on Yesnetwork.com saying, “New York is one of the traditional strongholds of the Big East, and now that the ACC is also represented through Syracuse, there should be a great deal of regional interest in these games.”
In a statement CEO Tracy Dolgin of the Yes Network, expressed his excitement for the deal and explained more maybe on the way. “This agreement is an example of the symbolic relationship YES now enjoys with FOX, a new minority owner of YES,” he added, “Given our complementary interests and area of expertise, we anticipate more of these types of mutually beneficial collaborations going forward.”
The deal is set to begin this year in 2013, and extend into 2014.
