2016 Rio Olympics Men’s Boxing: USA & Great Britain boxers yet to taste defeat

The American and British boxers are really showing off in the first few days of the 2016 Rio Olympics Men’s boxing tournament. Both countries started their campaign in the light flyweight division.

Their 49-kg weight matches are really impressive because of the showing of their boxers.

In this light flyweight division, USA’s Nico Hernandez and Great Britain’s Galal Yafai both won in points. They both defeated their opponents by the score of 3-0. Hernandez beats Manuel Cappai of Italy, while Yafai defeats Simplice Fotsala.

The two countries also dominated the lightweight division in their 2016 Rio Olympics Men’s boxing campaigns. It happened when they won over their respective foes in the division. American boxer Carlos Balderas beats Berik Abdrakhmanov of Kazakhstan. While Joseph Cordina won a close one over Charly Suarez of the Philippines. Balderas won on points over Berik, 3-0.

But Cordina had a tough time against Suarez. This is because Charly once led in the round 1 of the match, 29-28. However, Joseph comes back to take rounds 2 and 3 of the match in the judges’ scorecards.

Moreover, in the heavyweight division, British boxer Lawrence Okolie won over his Polish opponent in Britain’s 2016 Rio Olympics Men’s boxing bout. The fighter from Poland is Igor Jakubowski. Okolie won on points, 3-0. The Americans did not have a boxer that qualified for their 2016 Rio Olympics Men’s boxing team in this division.

Lastly, Great Britain boxer, Joshua Buatsi, won a TKO victory over Kennedy Katende. Buatsi knocked out Katende in the third round of their light heavyweight match. The United States did not have a competitor that qualified in this 81-kg weight division.

The boxers of these two countries have really shown their class in the ongoing 2016 Rio Olympics Men’s boxing so far. Their next schedule will be on August 9 CST. The upcoming fights will be in the light flyweight division.
