The USA Men’s Volleyball team reaches the semifinal round after upsetting the Poland team in the quarterfinal round of the Men’s Volleyball tournament in the 2016 Rio Olympics.
The American once again showcased their brilliant attacks, superb blockings, and strong service as they dominated and upset the very dangerous and powerhouse Polish team. The USA defeated Poland in straight sets by the score of 25-23, 25-22 and 25-20 to advance to the next round of the tournament.
The FIVB world ranked number five, USA, got 39 attacks, 5 blocks and 6 service aces far away from Poland’s 38 attacks, 2 blocks and 2 service aces. The Polish team was ranked number two by FIVB, also helped the American by their 25 errors as compared to 23 of the USA.
The setter of the American team, Micah Christenson, played a vital role in this match because he is the driver of the USA’s offending. He got a total of 35 excellent sets with additional 2 points from an attack and service ace.
Aaron Russell once again led the scoring department who scored a total of 14 points, 12 from attacks, 2 blocks, and 1 service ace. Matt Anderson and Taylor Sander also helped the team with both 11 points apiece.
On the other side of the court, this win of the USA was very disappointing not just for the Poland team, but also for volleyball enthusiast because Poland is one of the most dominating team in the past leagues prior to this Summer Olympics.
Bartosz Kurek was the only player who scored in double digits who scored a total of 11 points, 10 from attacks and 1 block. Team Captain Michal Kubiak also helped the team with 9 points.
The USA team will face another powerhouse team and the reigning 2012 London Olympics bronze medalist, Italy in the semifinal round. Italy also wins today against Iran whom they defeated in straight sets by the score of 31-29, 25-19 and 25-17.
