The Men’s Volleyball team of the United States of America (USA) once again failed to enter the final round of the Men’s Volleyball tournament in the 2016 Rio Olympics.

USA lost to Italy in five thrilling sets by the score of 28-30, 28-26, 25-9, 22-25 and 9-15. The Americans failed to receive the strong serve of the Italians, especially during the crucial stage of the 5th and deciding set of the match.
USA, who are ranked fifth in the FIVB volleyball world ranking were unable to capitalize on the 33 errors made by the fourth ranked Italians as compared to their own 30 errors. The USA also got 58 attacks, 16 blocks, and 5 service aces while Italy got 58 attacks, blocks, and 10 service aces.
The American veteran opposite hitter, Matt Anderson tried to carry his team with 25 points, 18 from attacks, 2 blocks, and 5 service aces. Three American players, Max Holt, Aaron Russell and Taylor Sander also scored in double digits. The trio score 16 points, 14 points, and 10 points, respectively.
On the other side of the court, Italian veteran, Ivan Zaytev, who is also an opposite spiker led his team with 21 points, 16 from attacks and 5 service aces. Filippo Lanza and Osmany Juantorena also helped their team with 16 points and 14 points apiece.
Meanwhile, Brazil Men’s Volleyball team dethroned the reigning 2012 London Olympics gold medalist Russia in straight sets by the score of 25-21, 25-20 and 25-17. This is the third straight finals appearance by Brazil on an Olympic stage.
Brazilian veteran opposite hitter, Wallace De Souza led the team with 18 points, 13 from attacks, 4 blocks, and 1 service ace while Maxim Mikhaylov led the Russian team with 16 points, 14 from attacks and 2 blocks.
USA will face Russia for the bronze medal match while Brazil will face Italy for the gold medal match of the 2016 Rio Olympics Men’s Volleyball tournament.
