The National Men’s Volleyball team of the United States took their first ever win by upsetting the reigning Olympic silver medalist Brazil in the preliminary round of the Men’s Volleyball competition in the 2016 Rio Olympics.
The Americans defeated the Brazilians in four thrilling and exciting sets by the score of 25-20, 25-23, 20-25 and 25-20. Despite Brazil took the third set, the USA team reorganized and found their groove in the fourth set and finished the match in 1 hour and 54 minutes.
The veteran opposite spiker Matt Anderson led again the USA team who scored a total of 24 points, 23 from attacks and 1 service ace. The ever reliable outside hitter Aaron Russell also help the team with 19 points, 17 from attacks, one block, and a service ace.
On the other side of the court, Wallace De Souza led the Brazilian team who scored 15 points, 13 from attacks, 1 block, and 1 service ace.
This is the first loss of Brazil in the preliminary round of the Men’s Volleyball tournament in2016 Rio Olympics.
Meanwhile, Italy remained unbeaten after defeating Mexico in straight sets by the score of 25-17, 25-13 and 25-17. This is the third straight win of the Italians in the tournament.
Filippo Lanza led the Italian team who scored 14 points, 10 from spikes, 2 blocks, and 2 service aces. Ivan Zaytev also helps the team with 11 points, 7 from attacks, 2 blocks, and 2 service aces.
Italy now is on the top spot of Pool A while the USA is in the fourth spot tie with Canada. Brazil, on the other hand, is now in the second spot tie with France.
The USA team needs to win their last two crucial games between France and Mexico to have a better chance to advance to the next round of the competition. Brazil will face the undefeated Italy tomorrow for their next game in the preliminary round.
