USA’s Women’s Beach Volleyball tandem, April Ross and Kerri Walsh Jennings won the beach volleyball bronze medal, coming back after losing the first set of the match to beat the host Brazilians in the 2016 Rio Olympics at Copacabana in Rio, Brazil.
Walsh Jennings, a three-time gold medalist, delivered a pair of blocks for the final two points on Wednesday night to win this bronze medal match. Walsh Jennings and Ross defeated Brazil’s tandem Talita Rocha and Larissa Franca Maestrini by the score of 17-21, 21-17, 15-9
The two American veteran beach volleyball players worked together to win this prestigious bronze medal. April Ross led the floor defense who got 15 excellent digs with additional 1 service ace while Kerri Walsh Jennings led the net defense who got 6 successful blocks.
Meanwhile, Germany’s tandem Laura Ludwig and Kira Walkenhorst won the gold medal this year’s Summer Olympics, handing the host nation, its second straight medal-round setback on the Copacabana sand at Rio de Janeiro in Brazil.
The 21-18, 21-14 win against another Brazilian tandem, Agatha Bednarczuk and Barbara Seixas de Freitas, provided Germany its first medal in women’s beach volleyball, just four years later when the German men took the gold medal on the Olympic podium in London. Brazil’s Agatha and Barbara are the reigning world champions will get the silver medal.
The German pair still managed to win the match despite having 4 service faults. It is also a team effort for Germany like the Americans did during the bronze medal match, Kira Walkenhorst got 7 successful blocks while Laura Ludwig got 7 excellent digs.
USA’s Kerri Walsh Jennings is a three –time Olympic gold medalist. Together with her partner Misty May-Treanor, they won the gold medal during the 2004 Athens Olympics, 2008 Beijing Olympics and the 2012 London Olympics. April Ross, on the other hand, won the silver medal in the 2012 Summer Olympics.
