The Australia Men’s National Basketball Team is the surprise team of the 2016 Rio Olympics as they are one win away from securing a medal when they face Serbia on Friday in the semifinals. Here are all the things you need to know for Australia vs. Serbia including previews, predictions and live stream links.
The Boomers are coming off another impressive win as they knock off Lithuania in the quarterfinals. In the 90-64 victory, Patty Mills led Australia with 24 points on 8-for-15 shooting from the field. Aaron Bynes added 16 points, six rebounds and three assists.
Australia finished the group stages at second place with a 4-1 record. Their lone loss came against the United States and if they can get past Serbia, they have a really good chance at the Gold Medal. The Australians are led by Andrew Bogut, who has been the anchor in offense and defense.
On the other hand, the Serbia Men’s National Basketball Team had a more difficult path to the semifinals. They knocked off Croatia in the quarterfinals with a hard-fought 86-83 win on Wednesday.
Bogdan Bogdanovic led the Serbians with 18 points, one rebound, five assists and three steals. Stefan Markovic, Nikola Jokic and Miroslav Raduljica added 12 points each to help stave off the Croatians. Jokic iced the game by going 4-for-4 at the free throw line in the last 13 seconds of the game.
Australia has been the second-best team in the 2016 Rio Olympics and it is not surprising if they knock off Serbia to meet the winner of the USA vs. Spain in the final. The Boomers will win this one with ease as they assure themselves of an Olympic medal.
