Undefeated in London 2012 Olympics Games, Kerri Walsh Jennings and new partner April Ross will prove their invincibility in Copacabana beach volleyball against home favorites Talita Antunes and Larissa Franca in Rio Olympics 2016.
Brazilian top home court favorites Antunes and Franca defeated Jennings and Ross who happened to be the current Olympic title holders in the recent 2016 FIVB Gstaad Major in Switzerland.
The Brazilians succeeded in defending their Gstaad major title the fourth time, Team USA reported. They took 4-1 advantage from the American duo with 3-1 edge in the final game. Their win lead them to the next week’s Rio Olympics 2016.
Both of these strongest teams in the world are anticipated for a great match in Copacabana, Rio de Janeiro.
Kerri Walsh Jennings and former partner Misty May Treanor have gone through defending their titles since their gold medal win in Athens in 2004, Beijing in 2008, and London Olympics in 2012.
Both represented US the last ten years. Since then, the country has never been defeated in every Olympic games.
With their consecutive successes in defending their Olympic title for 12 years, Jennings will partner with April Ross replacing Treanor in Rio Olympics 2016.
They already partnered in Swiss beach volleyball competition and won silver against Antunes and Franca. The results might be considered a hint of the possible outcome of the two teams in Rio Olympics 2016.
Talita Antunes and Larissa Franca are considered the most notable pair in the sport, Indian Express noted. Hence, a tough match between the iconic triumphant US and Brazilian teams are highly predictable.
Although the once greatest beach volleyball team ever won’t be expected in Rio next week, the Brazilians might take this as an opportunity to take the title from the American team.
Given that Kerri Walsh Jennings and April Ross partnership landed the US in second place, Brazilians and home court favorites Talita Antunes and Larissa Franca winning the gold medal and the Olympic title might be possible.
If predictions come true in the nearing Rio Olympics 2016, it would be a historic event as Brazil never won gold in an Olympic game since 1996. Two Brazilian teams landed first and second at that time. Since then, they never been on top of the game.
If this happened, Talita Antunes and Larissa Franca will not just win their first Olympic gold medal, but the title they’ve attempted to take for two decades, ending the American reign in beach volleyball makes Antunes-Franca tandem a great Brazilian duo.
Otherwise, Kerri Walsh Jennings and April Ross will take their fourth successive Olympic titles since 12 years now. The American team only failed once in Sydney Olympics in 2000.
