USA Women’s Volleyball team involves in another heart breaking upset in 2016 Rio Olympics, fails to enter the final round

Another upset, shocked the world today as the Women’s National Volleyball team of the United States fails to enter the final round after losing to Serbia in the Women’s Volleyball tournament of the 2016 Rio Olympics.

USA loss to Serbia in five thrilling and very tight sets by the score of 25-20, 17-25, 21-25, 25-16 and 13-15. This is the second biggest upset after the defeat of the reigning 2012 London Olympics gold medalist, Brazil to China, also in five heartbreaking sets.

The reigning 2012 London Olympics silver medalist, the USA, unable, despite having more attacks and blocks against Serbia. The Americans unable to read the strong service of the Serbians and they also failed to capitalize on the faulty errors of Serbia who got 32 errors as compared to their 29 errors. Throughout the match, USA got 50 attacks, 17 blocks, and 2 service aces as compared to Serbia’s 48 attacks, 16 blocks and 8 service aces.

The USA’s veteran middle attacker Rachel Adams tried to lift up the team by using her superb blocking skills and great attacks. She is the highest scorer who scored a total of 14 points, 8 from attacks and 6 blocks, followed by the newcomer opposite hitter Karsta Lowe who scored a total of 13 points, all from attacks. Longtime Olympians, Jordan Larson and Foluke Akinradewo also helped the team with 12 points and 8 points apiece.

On the other side of the court, Serbia’s Brankica Mihajlovic led the whole Serbian team with 22 points, 17 from attacks and 5 blocks. Tijana Boskovic and Milena Rasic also helped the team with 20 points and 18 points apiece.

This loss was very disappointing not just for the USA team, but also for the volleyball enthusiasts because the USA had an impressive and strong start in the tournament. They defeated Puerto Rico, Netherlands, China, Italy, Japan and even Serbia during the preliminary and the quarterfinal round of the tournament.

USA and Serbia still need to wait for the winner and the loser of the second semifinal match between the Netherlands and China.
