UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor emerged as a heavy underdog in his upcoming superfight against Floyd Mayweather Jr. However, Artem Lobov, McGregor’s teammate, believes “The Notorious” will win and predict that he’ll finish Mayweather before the end of Round 6.
“There’s one thing I would say to all of the critics: Don’t try to hate the man that dares to do the impossible. He has proven plenty of people wrong before, so I think it’s time for everybody to support him and believe in him. Conor doesn’t just show up for a payday and take a beating,” Lobov said. “He is in this fight because he knows he can win it. I know he can win this. Not only do I know he can win this, he will win it. I’m 100 percent certain of that. He stops him before Round 6 is over. Mark my words.”
Artem Lobov turned down fight to help Conor McGregor prepare
The superfight between Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather Jr. is now official and will take place on Aug. 26 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. McGregor’s camp already started making preparations even before the fight became official. The Irish community is currently giving their full support on McGregor as he faces an undefeated boxing champion in the boxing ring.
According to MMAjunkie, McGregor’s teammate Artem Lobov turned down a fight with Andre Fili at UFC 214 to help “The Notorious” prepare. Lobov was supposed to face Fili on July 29 which is less than a month before the McGregor-Mayweather superfight.
“I was offered a fight with Andre Fili,” Lobov said. “He was calling me out on Twitter. I would’ve taken the fight, but it’s just too hard for me to commit to something on July 29. I’m needed in this camp. It would’ve been too much of a risk for me.”
Lobov isn’t also interested in fighting Fili, saying that he’s not the type of opponent that can convince him to sign on the dotted line. After Lobov refused to fight, Dooho Choi will become Fili’s opponent at UFC 214.
Conor McGregor needs a miracle to beat Floyd Mayweather Jr.
Conor McGregor ruled two UFC divisions with his incredible striking force. However, fighting in the Octagon is very different from fighting in the boxing ring. Most people don’t see an inexperienced boxer like McGregor beating an undefeated and five-division world champion like Mayweather.
Despite his age, there is no doubt that Mayweather has a big advantage in the upcoming bout. However, he shouldn’t become overconfident since one punch can change everything.
