Manny Pacquiao had an excellent boxing career but lost his biggest fight to rival Floyd Mayweather Jr. in the “Fight of the Century” a year ago. Pacquiao will be facing American Jessie Vargas in November this year and the latter is asking Mayweather for advice on how to beat the Filipino boxer.

Pacquiao vs. Vargas is set Nov. 5 at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nevada in the United States.

Dewey Cooper, who is Vargas’ trainer, admitted in an interview that they consulted with the former pound for pound champion on how to beat Manny Pacquiao.

“Yes, I did see Floyd. As you know, I’m one of the trainers there. I saw him 2-3 times before I really brought it up to him” Cooper stated via Fight Hype.

“I didn’t bring it up the first two times I saw him because I already formulated a game plan and we were already three weeks into the camp. We weren’t going to change the game plan that we made already. I just was talking to him to really just get his opinion and to see how close he was to what we already designed.”

Jessie Vargas is an unknown in the boxing world and the fight is not expected to draw large numbers both in the TV ratings and pay-per-view numbers.

Fans are also disappointed with Pacquiao’s decision to return to the boxing ring even though he announced he was retiring from the sport after his April bout against Timothy Bradley. Many see the Pacquiao vs. Vargas bout as just a “money grab” for the Filipino.

Cooper also stated that they have done their own homework on how to beat Pacquiao but still talked to Mayweather to confirm if they had a good game plan against the Filipino.

“I wanted to see what we were going to do first and then talk to him to see if what he said lined up with what we planned to do. We did our research, we created our method that is what we are going to do,” Cooper stated.

“We talked to an expert about what he would do to see if it coincided with our method and it did. So we were confident that we had the right game plan from the get go and that’s the way we’ve been going at it.”

The Manny Pacquiao vs. Jessie Vargas bout will be for the World Boxing Organization (WBO) world welterweight title but the championship fight has not gained the hype previously observed in Pacquiao’s previous fights.

Floyd Mayweather convincingly defeated Pacquiao in their megafight in 2015. By giving advice to Jessie Vargas, he wants to beat the Filipino boxer again.
