While Golden Boy’s Oscar De La Hoya never fails to shower accolades on Canelo Alvarez (48-1-1), calling him the number one boxer in the world pound-for-pound, hardcore fans that truly follow the sport take it for a grain of salt. Boxers like Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (49-2-1-1) go a step further to accuse him of cherry picking.

Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. vs Canelo Alvarez fight soon?

Boxing news and rumors are not in dearth of Canelo Alvarez ‘ decisions to fight smaller, less threatening opponents; avoiding the real battles versus real live fighters that’d truly test his skills.

And it’s not just about Canelo Alvarez, but his promoter Oscar De La Hoya too, for being accused of protecting his fighter to keep his undefeated record.

Right now, what the boxing world wants to see is a duel between Canelo Alvarez against GGG, but the latter’s trainer Abel Sanchez believes De La Hoya is the roadblock to that bout happening.

“I think the biggest road block is Oscar not being 100 percent sure can beat Golovkin. I think Canelo’s sure, but I don’t think Oscar’s sure. Once Canelo Alvarez convinces him that he can, I think we’re going to be treated to a very great fight.” Sanchez said in a report by BoxingNews24.

Julio Cesar Chavez Jr, The Son of the Legend, is one of those who, not only thinks Canelo Alvarez has been facing weak opposition, but also would like to take a shot at him inside the squared circle.

“It would be a fight that is totally for the people, for the Mexican public. I imagine they want to see this fight. I do not know if there’s a lot of interest, but I think it can be attractive. And the weight we would have to negotiate- the promoters, managers. We would have to work out a weight where I would be able to climb in there and put on a good fight. I can give Canelo Alvarez a catch-weight of 164 pounds,” Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. said in a report by BoxingScene.

On Canelo as a fighter

“I cannot say that much about him. I think he’s a good fighter. I have admiration for him, but he has not fought with the opponents that people wanted him to fight, and because of that he lost some of those people who were there when he started because he comes from the bottom.” Chavez Jr. added for boxing news.

Before serious talks about Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. vs Canelo Alvarez could even take place, the former still has to complete his comeback by taking on Dominik Britsch (32-2-1, 11 KO). He last fought on July 2015 vs. Marcos Reyes, where he had to go through hand surgery for his resultant injuries according to boxing news.
