Manny Pacquiao recently asked his fans which opponent they want to see him fight next. About half who answered the poll on Twitter responded by choosing Amir Khan from the United Kingdom.
The fans might get the Manny Pacquiao vs. Amir Khan fight in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) with rumors that Jeff Horn, Pacquiao’s original opponent has pulled out the bout. 44,815 respondents voted in the Pacquiao Twitter poll. 48% picked Amir Khan while Kell Brook and Terence Crawford got over 20%. Jeff Horn, who was rumored to be fighting Pacquiao in Brisbane, Australia got 7%.

Will Pacquiao take poll results seriously?
According to a report from The Filipino Times, the organizers are now choosing between Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Diaa Al Khatib, who reportedly signed the deal already for the bout to happen in UAE, stated that they are still listening to offers for the venue.
“Yes. It is up for consideration. But we haven’t finalized yet. It’s up to the government…it’s up to the government’s decision and my decision,” Al Khatib stated in the article.
Another source said: “They want it in Dubai. They called…they said, ‘We will give you all the support, the venue, the logistics.'” The report added that Jeff Horn backed out of the bout because they wanted it to happen in Horn’s country, Australia.
With Horn unwilling to fight Pacquiao in another country, the former champion has no choice but to find another opponent. Michael Koncz, Pacquiao’s long-time adviser, admitted recently that the fight is already a go for UAE.
Next Pacquiao fight guaranteed to be in UAE
“It took us a while to get this deal together. There was a lot of confusion whether this is going to happen here in the UAE. I’m here with full authority and power. I have been the marriage counselor for Manny and we have developed a relationship,” Koncz stated via Gulf News.
“I’m involved in all aspects of what he does. We have executed an agreement in the morning and 100 percent the fight will be here in the UAE.”
Pacquiao changing opponents will be good news for the fans and boxing. Many have criticized the Filipino senator for picking an unknown fighter in Jeff Horn. However, it’s not guaranteed that Pacquiao will listen to the fans’ demands. At this point of his career, many has accused the Filipino fighter of just fighting for the sake of the money involved.
If Pacquiao decides to fight Amir Khan, he is fighting a serious threat who is a former champion. Khan is also a former sparring partner of Pacquiao under Freddie Roach so there is an interesting history in the said bout.
