Boxing News: Sugar Ray Leonard in danger after past stalker resurfaces

Boxing icon Sugar Ray Leonard fears for his life and his family after a stalker from the past has resurfaced and was more blatant with his threats.

TMZ reported that Leonard’s stalker, identified as Mark Anthony Francisco has been harassing his family for years and that the court has finally gave out a restraining order. It was also reported that the Francisco, 55, has a criminal past and according to Leonard the man is unstable and dangerous.

Francisco started stalking Leonard back in 2008 wherein he would send the boxing Hall of Famer disturbing messages such as “I will kill you, your mother, and your daughters.” Francisco would even go through the length to blackmail and demand money from the five weight division champion.

Then Leonard stated that his stalker did not make any communication for a period of time and when in October of last year Francisco would call Leonard’s charitable institutions claiming his Leonard’s cousin.

The most daring contact was made when Francisco showed up at Leonard’s house and talked in person with his wife and kids. He would then tell Leonard that “I went to your old houses that you used to live in. See you soon, Mark!”

The court has finally ordered Francisco to stay away from Leonard and his family within 100 meters at all times. A violation of the court order would result to his arrest.

After retiring, Leonard was also a motivational speaker and occasional actor. He is often regarded as one of the greatest boxer of all times and part of the “Fabulous Four” together with Roberto Duran, Thomas Hearns and Marvin Hagler.

Leonard fought in the welterweight, light middleweight, middleweight, super middleweight and light heavyweight divisions. He was also named “Boxer of the Decade” in the 1980s.
