Fight fans can’t seem to stop entertaining the thought of Conor McGregor stepping in the boxing ring versus Floyd Mayweather. Since the idea was first broached, the two champion fighters have kept trading barbs from their respective thrones.
In the same token, theorists are always up to the discussion about “What if” Floyd Mayweather crossed the line and fought Conor McGregor in the Octagon. They like to talk about how Money May would not last a single round against an MMA opponent.
Talks of Conor McGregor vs Floyd Mayweather are good for both sports. It also keeps both fighters popular among a variety of combat sports followers. But the truth of the matter is that it has all been talk since the idea of it came up.
Either fighter has made no actual steps, unless one counts Conor McGregor ‘s boxing license obtained in California as no laughing matter.
Dana White on Conor McGregor boxing Floyd Mayweather
There’s a lot of talk going on between Floyd and Conor right now,” Dana White, head of the UFC, said in a report by Fox5. “If they were to box, look at Manny Pacquiao-Floyd Mayweather. It was a fight that everyone wanted to see for years. It took almost 10 years to make that fight and they are the same sport. There’s no way this fight would ever happen.”
Dana White made those comments while promoting UFC’s first event at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center. He gave the Irishman the edge if both truly fought.
“If they really fought, it would be ugly. It would be ugly for Floyd,” White says. “Conor has more weapons and tools than Floyd Mayweather does.” Dana White added.
Floyd Sr. believes his son would jab Conor McGregor to death
Like father like son. Floyd Mayweather ‘s father is not the type to fall short on sharing his ideas, and he once said that he could “whoop McGregor’s @ss himself.”
“I think Conor McGregor is a talker and not a doer,” Mayweather Sr. said in a report by Yahoo! Sports. “Whatever he did in MMA, he’s not going to be able to get away with [in boxing].”
On Conor’s boxing skills, Floyd Sr. was less brutal this time around. “I don’t think his fundamentals are bad.” Apparently commenting on a relative scale. “You got to understand, his fundamentals ain’t up there with the man, either,” Mayweather Sr. said. “They got levels.”
Perhaps he meant it isn’t that bad for an amateur boxer, as Conor has never fought a single pro boxing bout in his career. And how would he fare against his son?
“A jab would take care of his ass all day,” he said. “All he’s going to be doing is trying to slide and get in. All Floyd’s going to do is [be] smooth.”
“Floyd’s [would] tear him up, man. Even though Floyd is not a big puncher, Floyd can hit him with jabs and stuff all night, man, and cut him up,” he said. “My son’s gonna cut his beard for him.”
