Pacquiao vs. Mayweather rematch: Bob Arum says fight will happen only if both agree to fight

Top Rank CEO Bob Arum stated that for the Manny Pacquiao vs. Flory Mayweather rematch to happen, both fighters must agree to the fight and level down their heads.

Boxing News 24 reported that Arum believes that the rematch will happen and it will surely be a spectacle to happen as Showtime has shown interest in making the fight happen. The 84-year old boxing promoter added that all that needs to happen is for one of either fighter to say that they want the fight. This, even though both Pacquiao and Mayweather have decided to retire from boxing.

Pacquiao, who recently won over Timothy Bradley in a unanimous victory last April 9, announced his retirement after the fight while Mayweather walked away from the ring after his 12 round victory via decision over Andre Berto last September. Mayweather has since stated that he is not interested in making any comeback but did not rule out the possibility of seeing a fight that would interest him to make a comeback.

TMZ reported that Arum stated that the dream rematch has a 50-50 chance of happening and will depend on the two fighters.

“It’s close to 50/50 but probably leaning more toward the fight happening … more likely than not. If the match was available, I believe [Manny] would come back for that match. If either man agrees to fight, my feeling is that they won’t be able to resist,” Arum said.

The truth of the matter is that Pacquiao is running for a Senate seat in the Philippines and once he gets elected, he won’t be allowed to take a three-month vacation just to prepare for a fight while Mayweather is now busy promoting his own set of fighters. Thus, the supposed dream rematch will continue to be a dream, by far.
