New WBA champ Carl Frampton looks to unify belt against Lee Selby

Carl Frampton recently won over Leo Santa Cruz in a WBA featherweight title bout. But the Irishman, who is nicknamed “The Jackal”, is seeking for a unification in his current weight division.

The report came from Nick Lustig of Skysports.

The Irishman argued that he does not rule out a rematch with Santa Cruz.

“I don’t think there’s a rematch clause in place, but it would be a great fight, one I’d be happy to do,” Frampton said.

Carl also stated that he would want to bring Leo to a match in Belfast. He believes that they could sell out tickets there in his home country.

Lustig reported that Frampton has an interest in fighting the current IBF featherweight champion, Lee Selby.

“Lee Selby is a great fighter, someone I respect and one of the best UK fighters”, Frampton added.

The native of Ireland added that he wants to fight the big names in the division such as Gary Russell and so on. He reasoned that he do not disrespect the other guys but he just wants to be involved in the big fights.

Lee Selby is the current IBF featherweight champion from the United Kingdom who only lost once in his professional career. He boasts a record of 23 wins with one loss. Selby is not really a known puncher as he only tallied 8 knockouts in his victories.

Meanwhile, Gary Russell Jr. is the WBC featherweight champion from the United States who also had one defeat in his professional career. Russell has a current record of 27 wins with a single defeat. Unlike Selby, Gary is somehow a knockout artist in which he has 16 knockout victories.

Carl Frampton seems unafraid of the big fights in his young career. This mentality might take him to new heights in boxing.
