Bruno Mars and Adele, known not only as singers but also songwriters have recently worked together for Adele’s song “All I Ask”. Bruno Mars has opened up on what it’s like working with what he referred to as a ‘diva’.
On a Tuesday’s interview with KTU 103.5 radio, Bruno Mars sat down with Cubby and Carolina and talk about his collaboration with Adele.
Mars praised Adele saying that the British artist is incredible and definitely a superstar. But then as the conversation went on he added, “She walks into the studio she’s got all this attitude, she’s a diva, she’s like, ‘I don’t want to do this. I don’t like that…..’ And then as soon as we uh hit a couple chords that she liked, we started rolling, and that’s where we got that song from.”
The growing feud between the two songwriters can be rooted with their disagreement on a part of the lyrics of their co-written song”All I Ask”.
“We were aiming for that big, diva, ballad thing – that’s what I envisioned,” Mars says. “But ‘lovers’? I don’t know if anybody really says ‘lovers. Yeah, we’re lovers. This is my lover. I was like, should we rethink that? But she was so gangster about it. She was like, ‘nope’. ‘That’s what it has to be’.’” – Bruno Mars on a cover issue of Rolling Stone magazine.
In the end the American songwriter did push through with the lyrics. “Some of the slickest shit we ever wrote,” he says. “But I will use that line one day,” he vows. “You’re gonna hear that on the fourth album.”
Despite the little tension going on between the two award winning Grammy artists, Mars still wanted to perform “All I Ask” with Adele.
“I don’t know what she’s waiting on, man,” he said “I’m like come on Adele, like, send an email, let me know!”
Meanwhile, their hit track “All I Ask” peaked at number 41 on the ‘UK Singles Chart’ and at number 77 on the ‘Billboard Hot 100’.
