The synopsis for the next episode of Criminal Minds has already been out. This also signals Emily Prentiss’s (Paget Brewster) first case as the new BAU chief after taking over Aaron Hotch (Thomas Gibson). The synopsis hints that the case will lead the team to believe that they’re dealing with the supernatural, or aren’t they?

Seems like the BAU will have an early Halloween nightmare as they go after a serial killer far different and much more fearful than they’ve ever handled before. According to some reports, this killer has a knack for torturing his victims to his heart’s desire before disposing of them. It is rumored that the killer has sharp claws and have nine lives making them think that it has . Furthermore, the search will bring the team to the old Appalachian Trail in rural Virginia.

With these descriptions, it can’t be helped that fans will really think this one might be engaged in the occult or that it is not a human after all. There are various theories that come out from the description of the killer, how the victims are killed, and the place where the killings took place.

One of the possibilities, if it is indeed a supernatural one, is that the team could be encountering a wendigo, an evil creature from Algonquian folklore who was once a man but was transformed into a cannibalistic creature. Those who have watched ‘Supernatural’ would have encountered it.

Another theory is he could be one of those inbred, mutated, cannibalistic mountain men similar to the ones in the movie ‘Wrong Turn.’ The show could have drawn the inspiration from these urban legends as their next killer. Whatever it may be, the Prentiss and her team are in for a bloody hunt for the killer.
