The search for the next class-act lady to represent the USA in the Miss Universe 2016 has come to an end, as Miss District of Colombia, Deshauna Barber has been crowned Miss USA 2016 on Sunday.
A lady with beauty, brains and full dedication in serving her country, Deshauna Barber is a 26-year-old Army officer and IT Analyst who stunned the judges during the Miss USA 2016 competition in all the categories, most especially on the question and answer portion.
When asked by Joe Zee about Pentagon’s opening of all combat jobs to women, Miss District Colombia, who has followed her family’s track in serving the country in the army before joining Miss USA 2016, confidently answered the question, saying it is an amazing job by the US government to allow women to work in all branches of the military, and made her point regarding gender equality by wrapping up her answer with “As a commander of my unit, I am powerful, I am dedicated, and it is important that we recognize that gender does not limit us in the United States Army.”
According to her Miss USA profile, Miss District Colombia’s platform focuses on the treatment of US soldiers suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorders after deployment and suicide prevention in the Armed Forces.
Deshauna Barber strutted the runway in the evening gown portion wearing a sparkly, long cut neckline dress, and wowed the judges and the audience on the swimsuit portion with her zigzag patterned pink two-piece.
She broke down in tears as Miss USA 2015 Olivia Jordan passed her the crown and kissed her cheek before going down the stage and giving the Miss USA 2016 her time to shine.
